The Department Centre of Scientific, Technical and Economic Information of the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Economy of the Republic of Poland is responsible for coordination of information activities in the department, being at the same time the institutional centre of the Ministry.
The main tasks ROI are: govern information activity, introduce modern technical means of information and to provide information activity concerning legal, economic and technical aspects of transport, general problems of navigation, highway engineering, road, rail and air transport, planning and organisation of goods transport, container and combined transport, reloading works, environment protection etc.
The Main Transport Library (under the aegis of ROI), well-known among other scientific libraries in Poland, co-ordinates and above-mentioned activities for all departments. Its book collection is the base for the Centre.
ROI undertakes the following activities:
collection, indexation and circulation of books, magazines, catalogues, standards collections, general information and scientific descriptions following general transportation and traffic standards and regulations;
documentation and summaries of articles published abroad on the latest technical and scientific achievements;
prepares documentary thematic indexes for current activities of the Ministry units;
organization of training courses for librarian students.
