Collection and dissemination of literature
The Library of the Centre holds the following publications: books, periodicals and specialised publications, including translations, thematic indexes, carographic materials, standards, mission reports, professional literature, source materials etc.
The subject areas are: economic, organisation and administration, general aspects of navigation, highway engineering, air, road and rail transport, planning and transport organisation, containerisation, combined transport and reloading.
The book collection amounts to 45 500 volumes, the periodical publications include 29 000 copies of journals and special collection (cartography, standards, translations etc.)amounts to 26 000 units. The Library subscribes to 348 journals, of which 143 are foreign publications.
Collection is opened to the public. There are no restrictions to visitors to the library. Individual lending is operated to all employees of the Ministry and the Central Management of the Polish State Railways, again with no restriction. All employees of other departmental units and libraries may borrow from the library, according to the interlibrary agreements.
The following catalogues are available:
a) alphabetical;
b) subject-methodological, according to the UDC system;
c) separate catalogues of periodical publications;
d) catalogues of standards (both Polish and foreign) etc.
There are abstract card files (about 160 00 secondary documents - in documentary catalogues classified according to the UDC (Universal Decimal Classification) system, which contain: abstracts of articles published in both Polish and foreign professional magazines, card-files of special collections (translations, thematic lists, analytic and systematic descriptions, reports concerning foreign missions and reports of research institute activities).
